Moving your personal possessions from the UK to Germany after Brexit
Brexit has brought about a number of complications regarding international removals. Moving from the UK to Germany in particular seems to be hedged about with difficulties, as the new regulations come into effect. It is, therefore, pivotal to thoroughly research available solutions and work out an effective plan.
Before attempting a move, you will need to obtain en EORI number and an NI number, both issued through the Government website. Copies of these will then have to be handed over to the driver transporting the goods across the border, as they may be required to present these documents during potential road checks. Since their destination is the Schengen area, you should label your belongings with GBPR. It will facilitate the work of the EU Border officials during the standard checking procedure. All the relevant paperwork will be issued upon approval which will smooth the way for further travel within Schengen.
To complete the procedure following the arrival in Germany, you will be asked to register your possessions and the vehicle by filling out the Form 0350. This will result in an imposition of a temporary limit regarding prospective second-hand sale of your items. Depending on specific regulation valid at the time and the type of the item in question, the limit by default spans 12 to 18 months and is subject to further changes in accordance with the length of time of demonstrable ownership of the items.
Essential Points to Consider before Visiting Germany during the Covid-19 Pandemic
Regrettably, moving to Germany in 2022 will continue to prove quite a demanding task, as the Covid-19 pandemic does not seem to be loosening its grip. What with international travel restrictions in place, a move abroad will pose many challenges and thus require a careful consideration during the planning stage.
Given the dynamic nature of the current situation, keeping your hand on the pulse will allow you to stay up to date with all the rapid changes that will have to be factored into your plans. As of early 2022, however, visiting and moving to Germany requires submitting a number of documents. Apart from the regular paperwork facilitating legal relocation to Germany, such as proof of identity and any other pertinent documentation, entry into the country will be granted to those who will provide a negative Covid-19 test result and proof of recovery – if they have combated the illness recently.
Germany imposes a general obligation on travellers aged above six to present proof of a full course of vaccination against Covid-19. As mentioned above, a negative antigen test result received within 48 hour prior to arrival or a PCR test dating back 72 hours may be accepted as well. Additional restrictions obtain for those arriving from high-risk areas. If this is the case for you, upon entry, you will be required to head immediately to your accommodation where you will self-isolate between 10 and 14 days, depending on the current contagion variants in the relevant region. This requirement by default spans only five days for children under the age of six and is subject to shortening for adults who will provide a negative test result on day five of the quarantine.

Ten Things to Consider When Moving to Germany
It is very challenging to relocate to any place within the same country. Even moving down the street can also be problematic and has lots of challenges. The complication and challenges become worse when it is moving from one's country to another country. However, you can reduce the challenges and relieve yourself of a lot of stresses by preparing in advance for the move. There are ten factors that you should take into consideration when you are moving to Germany even if you hire the services of a moving company or a man and van operator.
Get Oriented
Before you compare man and van prices to Germany and relocate, it is very important that you take time to learn the Germans' way of doing things and their way of life and this means learning their culture. You should also learn about the locality and the city that you will be living as well as the German Language. The above is what I mean by getting oriented. Some people may take this for granted thinking that it is quite obvious and that nobody omits that. But experience has shown that many expats moved into Germany without taking time to learn about Germany cultures and other things mentioned above. Moving to Germany from the UK means that you are relocating to another country with a different language and different way of life which are completely new and may appear strange to you. It is not good to relocate to Germany without making some basic preparation in terms of learning the way of life of the Germany. This is what our site is aimed at achieving, that is, helping you to learn the German culture. Here are some important things that you should learn before hiring a cheap UK to Germany one way van hire and a driver company and moving.
- Take time to research and read about the town and city that you will be residing in during your stay in Germany. You will obtain detailed information online and in our sites about German cities such as Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin, Dresden and others. Some of the areas that you should concentrate on include the cost of living, public transport, education system and various schools in the locality and the likes. We have provided affordable last minute van and a man removals to Germany and at many occasions can put you in contact with our customers which have relocated to the same area you are thinking of.
- Do you know basic German? This is an important question that you should ask yourself before moving to Germany. There is no doubt that many Germans are able to speak English and some of them speak it excellently. But the official language and the basic vehicular language in the country is German. It will be difficult for you to associate and get assimilated in the society if you don't have a basic knowledge of the German language. So, it is not a good thing to get to the country as a completely monolingual British. Before you enter Germany, you should make effort to learn basic German and common phrases as well as greetings. You will be better off than a person that does not speak German at all if you spend time to learn German.
- Which school will your children attend? If you are a parent and you are moving to the country with your children, it will also be good that you decide on which type of school your children will attend. This implies that you have to take time to learn about Germany education system and the various types of schools in the country. A basic knowledge of this will be OK. There are different kinds of schools in Germany which includes public, private and international schools. In Germany, home-schooling is not allowed and school attendance is compulsory for schoolchildren to a particular level of education. You don't have to wait or delay your decision on which school your children will attend until you arrive in the country. It will be nice you make a decision before arriving but when you arrive the country and the situation demand that you change your decision you can now do so.
Passport and visas
As a UK citizen, you will not require visa in order to travel to Germany since it is a European country but you will require a passport indicating that you are a British citizen or subject of Britain. You can compare UK to Germany man and van hire prices and move general household goods and personal items without getting any permits and paying taxes. However, if you are planning for a long stay, you should ensure that you follow the rules and do all the necessary documentations when you arrive. So, take time to learn about the requirements for long stays in Germany for Britons. Whether you are going for a short or long stay, you have to ensure that your passport is valid or meets the requirements. If you are a US citizen, you can only travel without visa to Germany for a period of 90 days. But you cannot take employment in the country. In case you want to take employment, you are required to travel with a valid work visa. You can apply for a work visa or a residence permit when you arrive in Germany but you should ensure that you lodge in your application before the expiration of the 90 days allowed for short stay without visa. Microchips and bringing pets to Germany
Germany allows pet owners to bring their pets into the country insofar as they comply with the regulation guiding the importation of dogs and cats (and ferrets). You can use one way van hire to Germany services to transport your pets. However you must provide the pets with microchip that proves that the animal has no rabies. Check our page for bringing dogs and cats to Germany. Note that in Germany and other European countries, there is specific guideline for the training of dogs. Given that, dog owners are allowed to move along with their dogs even in the public transportation. Nobody will harass you or get offended if you enter a restaurant with your dog in Germany. This is quite unlike the US. However, before you will be able to move along with your dogs, you must train your dog not to attack people or bark at wrong times. The practice in Germany is that dogs can be seen but they are not supposed to bark. Unlike in the UK, US and Canada, untrained dogs are not accepted in Germany. In Germany, there are some breeds of dogs that are not allowed and our man and van pet transport would not take a risk to move such animals. Typical examples of such breeds of dogs are Kampfhunde (fighting dogs) and pit bulls.
Driving a van in Germany
In Germany, asking whether somebody really needs a car or a van is a stupid question because the country is known for its autobahn. Are you allowed to drive your car legally in Germany if you prefer to have a car? You can drive with your UK driver's licenses in Germany for up to a year and the same things apply to US and Canadian expats or visitors in Germany. After a year from the date you entered Germany, you are required to renew your driver's license and obtain a German driver's license. Cars are available for rent in Germany but majority of the cars available for rent are manual transmission. If you prefer automatic transmission, you will be spending more money as they are available at a high cost. There is plenty of small man with a van hire companies that help Germans move boxes and furniture from Germany to the Netherlands, Austria, Poland and of course England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland. Clutch and manual gear shift vehicles are used by Germans to learn how to drive which is most unlike the Americans especially nowadays. There are driving schools in Germany called Fahrschule and learners attend the school to learn how to drive. Germany is not a country where children are taught how to drive by their Dads and Moms. You cannot learn how to drive from your friend in Germany neither can your spouse teaches you how to drive; you must learn it from a driving school. If you do not driver you can contact our cheap one way van hire to Germany and from Germany to Spain, removals Gibraltar, Luxembourg, man with a van to Hungary from Germany, Latvia and more. Check also man and van to Portugal from Germany.
Set up your German utilities
Having your phone and internet network installed for you in Germany can take a longer time than it is the case in the UK. Do you need a cell phone that will function in Europe? It all depends on the type of cell phone that you are using. Mobile phone service providers in Germany include Vodafone, T-Mobile, 02, and others. So, take time to learn about various service providers and packages and then choose one that will meet your requirements. If you want a cell phone that functions throughout Europe, then you have to go for T-Mobile or AT&T mobile phone but if you purchase a normal Verizon cell phone, it does not work in Europe. We have pages for iPhone in Germany and cell phones in Europe. Refer to these pages for more and detailed information on cell phone in the country.
In Germany just as it is the case in the UK you will be able to obtain a bundle for your TV, internet and phone. Cable and satellite televisions are widely common in Germany. There are some channels that offer programmes in English language that you can get in Germany. Some of the channels include BBC, CNN, Sky and others. However, if you prefer English channels, you will be charged extra. A radio-TV-internet fee called Rundfunkbeitrag is charged on every German household whether or not you watch cable satellite.
You don't have to worry about gas, electricity or water if you are living in a rented apartment except your rent is a type called kalt or kaltmiete in Germany which translates as cold rent. In this type of rent, your utilities are not included in your rent meaning that you will be paying for them. But those living apartments rented as warmiete do not pay for utilities because they are included in their rent. Before you sign your lease or rental agreement in Germany, it is advisable that you find out what type of lease is provided to you or find out from your landlord whose responsibility it is to pay for power, water and gas. If you have any questions about moving full 1, 2, 3 or 4 bedroom house content to Germany from UK contact many German last minute man and van hire to help you out. Be warned: It is not easy to call a sales contract or subscription in Germany. Subscriptions are not cancelled immediately you stop paying for them as it is the case in the US and some other countries. Renewal is automatically done insofar as it has not been cancelled earlier before the expiration of the current on. In Germany, the providers are favoured more by the law than the subscribers. If you can and understand German, make sure that you read throughout the fine print. But if you cannot read German, you should find someone that will do that for you.

Doctors and prescriptions medications
When moving to Germany all visitors and British expats are required to bring with them prescriptions medications for themselves and their family members as much as a 90 day supply. Once you have moved to Germany, you should try to look for a German physician for your medical prescriptions and family prescription anytime you need it. Note US or Canadian prescription will not be used by a Germany Pharmacy to administer medications to you except the prescriptions are first changed to a German version. Another important fact that you should be aware of about medications in Germany is that the name of some medicines in the US may be the same with the name of some medicine in Germany but they are completely different medicines and this highlights the needs to get a German conversion of your medicines before they are issued to you. Finally, most of physicians in Germany do not speak English and so, you have to look for a physician that can speak Germany if you are not able to speak Germany. For more and detailed information on this, you need to visit our page on medicines and prescriptions in Germany.
Medicines are not sold in any other store except in Pharmacy in Germany. So, you must go to a pharmacy in order to purchase cold medicine or aspirin if you have any for that. Non-prescription drugs are also sold in pharmacies called Apotheke in German unlike in the US where they are sold also in grocery stores. Thus, you need to request for them from a pharmacy.
Book your flight to Germany well in Advance
Once you have hired a man and a van to carry out your removals to Germany at low costs you need to take care of how you will get there before the van hire company does. Purchase your flight ticket as well as those of your family members in advance. The best time to purchase your flight ticket is when you have made up your mind and you are sure that you will be traveling to Germany. Booking in advance or early enough gives you more advantage because virtually all the airlines charge less for advance booking than last minutes booking or flight booked within few hours or minutes before departure. So, you will be able to cut cost on your transportation if you book in advance. Remember that if you have a lot of boxes and luggage the airline will charge you a lot of money for shipping them. Instead you can hire our express man and van delivery to Germany from UK and have your goods at your door step when you arrive. You must plan ahead in order to get money. Germany registration law was modified and the changes take effect starting from November 1, 2015. Bear in mind that in some locations in Germany, the Einwohnermeldeamt is called the Bürgerbüro or kreisverwaltungsreferat (KVR). Health insurance and social security
UK holidaymakers and temporary visitors from other European Union countries can obtain medical services with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to EU countries where they are spending their holidays or where they visited. If you are a visitor in the UK or you are traveling from the UK to Germany and you are not a legal resident of the UK, you will not be issued with the EHIC. This means that you will be treated by the authorities of Germany as a private patient.
However, before you travel one way van hire to Germany or to any member state of EU, you have to apply for your EHIC insofar as you are residents in the UK. The EHIC has a validity period of between three and five years. If you are no longer in residence in the UK, you are required by law to send your EHIC back to the Department of Health as soon as possible.
It is the responsibility of the government to issue EHIC to UK state pensioners living in Germany and who applied for healthcare by registering with an S1 form. The EHIC issued under the condition mentioned above is for temporary used in any European Union country. For more information you can contact the Overseas Healthcare Team through +44 (0) 191 218 1999.
You obtain medical care in the same condition and at the same fee with the residents of Germany when you present your EHIC card. However, EHIC are accepted for medical tourism meaning that if you are coming to Germany mainly for medical treatment, you will not be able to obtain medical treatment with your EHIC unless you want to be treated as a private patient. If you are traveling for medical treatment, your local NHS Trust should provide you with form S2 on application.
Healthcare in Germany
Social security card is not issued automatically as soon as you obtain employment. You are required to first register with a Krankenkasse (Health Insurance Company). You can do the registration by yourself or your employer will do it for you. But if your employer fails, then you have to take care of it by yourself. Individuals who are self-employed are required to do the registration by themselves.
There are several companies that oversee the administration of German health insurance as well as coal security system. Generally speaking, German Health Insurance is of two types. The first type is the state health insurance which is the most popular. It is called in German Gesetzliche Krankenkasse. The second type is called the Private health insurance which is known as Private Krankenkasse.
About half of the cost of your health care cover is provided by your employer whether you are public or privately insured. The remaining portion of the payment will be paid by you and the amount to be paid is debited from your monthly salary. You as well as your employer contribute to the social security and health insurance via the Krankenkasse. The German government establishes the amount you and your employer are to pay. Normally, you are charged 15% of your monthly salary for healthcare.
If your gross monthly salary is above €4,350 you can opt for a private insurance rather than having a public insurance scheme.
You are given the freedom to choose which of the health insurance types to select. Your Health Insurance card as well as your social security number called sozialversicherungsummer will be issued to you once you have completed your payment in Krankenkasse.
You will be required to present your health insurance card when you visit a doctor. If you receive prescription, you may require to present the prescription to the Krankenkasse where you are registered so that you will be reimbursed. The health services provided will determine the amount that you will be reimbursed with. You can find out from your Krankenkasse the services that your insurance covered.
If your employer is backing up your health insurance cover, there are requirements or rules to abide by in this regard. Contact the HR department in Germany for more information on that.
Note that is possible for the Krankenkasse that you are registered with to charge you starting from the date you are registered as a UK expat. Below is the list of main insurance companies to choose from:
